Basic – Class I Water, 7.0 Miles
Contact: Plod Pedal Paddle, firstname.lastname@example.org, 607-765-5555
Each Wednesday evening we will paddle a section of the Tioughnioga River, beginning in Cortland and traveling south until we hit the Chenango River. From there we continue on the Chenango River to the confluence with the Susquehanna River in Binghamton. We then turn west and paddle a couple miles on the Susquehanna River to Lourdes Hospital.
The week two and three stretches are suitable for paddlers who know how to control their boat in moving water, and can turn and stop when and where they need to (water level dependent). The remaining sections are suitable for paddlers of all skill levels, and still provide excitement, twists and turns, and nice moving water.
We don’t stop for dinner on the way, though we have time for water and de-water breaks, and we have always managed to get off the water before dark. The atmosphere on the water is still relaxed, though we do try to keep things moving on shore so as to give us the time we need on the water.
Week 3, June 1, Messengerville to Killawog, 8 miles
Week 4, June 8, Killawog to Whitney Point, 7 miles
Week 5, June 15, Whitney Point to Chenango Forks, 10 miles
Week 6, June 22, Chenango Forks to Chenango Bridge, 8 miles
Week 7, June 29 Chenango Bridge to Lourdes, 8 miles
To participate, please call or e-mail me by 8PM Tuesday, for the next day’s trip. You don’t have to wait until Tuesday, and I prefer early sign ups, but I know that some of you are fair weather paddlers, so I understand.
