ACKC General Membership Meeting
November 19, 2012
Location: Central United Methodist Church, 17 Nanticoke Ave., Endicott
After the club’s annual dinner, Sharon Canfield called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. She thanked everyone who brought food, introduced visitors, thanked Becky Buchanan for organizing the dinner, and thanked Gene Nowlan for his work tallying people’s trip miles and putting together the award certificates.
Secretary’s report: Minutes of the 10-22-12 meeting were e-mailed to members, posted on line and made available at the meeting. The club voted to accept the minutes as presented.
Treasurer’s report: Linda Breffle did not have the precise figures on hand but reported that the club had a balance of approximately $1,300.
Membership report: Linda reported that the club had 91 members.
Sharon announced that she is developing a survey soliciting opinions about various matters related to the club.
Sharon described the difficulty the Executive Council has had in getting people to volunteer for positions that are coming open on the Council. Club members discussed how the Council conducts its business, how it might do business in the future, whether it should choose a club president and whether the club should make changes to the structure of the Council and the club itself. Merrill Douglas was asked to send a copy of the club bylaws to all current members.
The club elected Linda Breffle and Kent Foster as Council members for 2013, joining Sharon Canfield, Don Hall and Dave Tanner, who are continuing their two-year terms. The club still needs to fill two more Council positions.
Walt Clark announced that he had a collection of paddling magazines to give away if anyone wanted them.
Rita Gould announced that Mike Colwell and Steve Busch were working to organize weekly pool sessions at Chenango Forks High School for the winter. This would be an ACA-sanctioned event, aimed mainly at people with whitewater canoes and kayaks or short recreational kayaks .Mike would send an e-mail with details.
Linda announced that although there were no formal door prizes, members were invited to choose from an assortment of club shirts and hats, jellies, applesauce and other items set out for the taking.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:10
Gene Nowlan distributed mileage awards.
